They are located in the municipality of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the Rioja Alta region. Sheltered from the north winds, by the Sierra de Cantabria; bathed by the Ebro river to the south, a rugged topography and at an altitude of 600 meters; It enjoys an unbeatable microclimate for growing vines. Along with this climate, the soil largely determines what the wine will be like: its taste, its smell, its color and its body, among other factors, giving it personality and character.
They are mainly found in three zones that are differentiated by the type of soil, within its predominance of clay-limestone.
01
The vineyards on the right bank of the Ebro river, such as La Liende, with alluvial or stony soil with boulders, are poor in nutrients, organic matter and mineral salts, so the roots go deep into the earth in search of them. Due to its texture, the soil facilitates permeability and drainage. The production is small but of great quality.
02
The vineyards located between San Vicente and Peciña, such as Gallomate, Burdarán, Fuente Cano, etc. are greener and stronger lands, which optimally retain the water and nutrients necessary for a good development of the vine.
03
The vineyards located further east of the town, such as Sobre los huertos, Calero, San Cepito, etc. have an eminently limestone component and the versatility to drain water well in the rainy season and retain it in the dry season. Limestone soils reflect the light and heat of the sun, radiating it towards the lower part of the bunch of grapes, which favours its ripening and quality.
